So close, yet so far: Pacers lose by 1 to Spurs

It hurts. It hurts so bad.
The Indiana Pacers were unexpectedly up by 13 points heading into the 4th quarter against the Spurs in San Antonio, a game no one expected them to win.
Pacers fans were hopeful, but given the history of this squad, nothing was certain. And fair enough, the Spurs began chipping away at the lead (actually it was very quickly). But somehow, the Pacers were still in it. With time running down, Roy Hibbert tips in a miss to give the Pacers a 99-98 lead.
With 10 seconds to go, Tim Duncan has his shot blocked by Hibbert, but he gets it right back and slams it in. Spurs 100, Pacers 99, 4 seconds to go. Uh oh.
Last play, TJ Ford gets it, misses a fall-away at the buzzer. Heartbreak again for the Pacers. Final score: 100-99.
Murphy led the way with 21 points and 7 rebounds, and Roy Hibbert was a standout with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocks. However, as a team they were out rebounded 51-38 and gave up a whopping 18 offensive boards. Can’t do that against an experienced team like the Spurs.
That’s the thing with this Indiana team. No lead is safe because without Granger they have no real go to guy. Even with such a commanding lead against the Spurs, you feared that they were still going to lose. When the Spurs had the ball with 10 seconds to go, you had the feeling that they’d probably score. But when the Pacers had the ball with 4 seconds to go, you were doubtful they’d get the win. There’s just no confidence.
Last season, at least they surprised some people by beating the top teams like the Lakers, the Celtics, the Magic, the Nuggets, the Suns and the Cavs. They may have lost to the worst teams in the league, but at least it gave the fans something to get excited about. This season, not so much. Apart from the Celtics, the Pacers have not beaten a single 0.500+ team this season. And they’ve been losing the bad teams too, like the Knicks, the Clippers, the Warriors and the Grizzlies. Are they really that bad of a team?
Not all hope is lost though. Guess what record the Pacers had after 25 games last season? Yep, exactly the same as this season, 9-16. In the dismal East, a few games here and there can pull them right back into playoff contention. Come on Pacers! Next up the Milwaukee Bucks!

Thank God the won the game. They really needed as it is already critical time for the Spurs to start improving their standing in the Western Conference. The team needs to perform better next time because against tougher opponent, they can’t afford to let loose like they did against the Pacers.
I know that Manu’s overall performance so far this season is far from his best. Must have been because of the many injuries that he had to endured over the last one year. But let’s give the time he needs to get back to his usual self.
After all, the Spurs are more than just Manu or even Timmy and Tony. It’s about time the rest buck up and provide more support for the Big Three.
