NBA Talk: David Lee Inching Closer To a Deal With The Knicks

Rumors
have been flying everywhere this whole offseason surrounding David Lee
of him going to multiple NBA teams. But as of right now, I think all of
us have wasted our time talking about that.
Numerous sources
have told me that David Lee is inching closer and closer to inking a
deal with his fellow New York Knicks. So, yes people, David Lee is now
reuniting with the Knicks with his fellow teammate Nate Robinson.
“We’re on the verge of getting this done,” Mark Bartelstein told ESPN. “I believe David will sign the contract tomorrow.”
David
Lee is scheduled to have a one-year deal worth $7M, but it could be $8M
if the Knicks reach the playoffs. Lee is being paid a higher salary
than Krypto-Nate, who is reported to be making $2.9M this season.
Lee
and Robinson were both being rumored to other teams this whole
offseason. Rumors had it that Robinson would be a member of the Los
Angeles Lakers! Other swirling stories included Lee going to the Utah
Jazz for Carlos Boozer in a sign-and-trade deal scenario.
Things
were getting shaky between the two athletes and the franchise of New
York. The Knicks haven’t had much of a success and bringing back Lee
and Robinson doesn’t make them look as bad as they were intended to be.
The Knicks haven’t had a glamorous offseason.
They
offered a deal to point guard Jason Kidd, but refused as he rejoined
the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks were also negotiating with players
like Andre Miller, who fell to Portland, and Grant Hill, who went back
to Phoenix. The Knicks also bet on Ramon Sessions, who was now off to
Minnesota.
Speculation was going on that the Knicks could have
brought in LeBron James, but New York is now waiting next year to tame
the superstar. The Knicks also had a chance at Jason Williams, who
later went off to the Orlando Magic.
“There’s never been a
player who signed a deal worth more than the qualifying offer on a
one-year deal,” Bartelstein told NBA.com. “We’re very appreciative of
that. They did something that’s unprecedented…they could have taken a
much harder stance on this. We’ll deal with next summer when we get to
it.
“This was about the most unique situation you could have in the NBA. It was the perfect storm of what you don’t want to have.”
The
Knicks maybe looking towards another losing seasons, but with a few
fixes, things can change. And right now, resigning David Lee and Nate
Robinson won’t be so bad.
Because with that, it’s off to a good start.
