NBA Crystal Ball: Ricky Rubio Will Not Be Hungry Like the Wolf Next Season

The 2009 NBA Draft was anything but predictable. However; instead of the Memphiz Grizzlies being the talk of the night it was the Minnesota Timberwolves who had people scratching their heads when they chose Ricky Rubio, the Spanish sensation, and Johnny Flynn, the explosive point guard out of Syracuse. When they chose Ty Lawson I couldn’t help but think Matt Millen had commandeered the draft room in Minnesota and was having flashbacks to his drafting wide receivers days.

The real joke seems to be on Ricky Rubio, only he isn’t laughing. If you need proof you only need to notice that he didn’t show up to the introductory news conference for the Timberwolves’ draft picks. Timberwolves GM David Kahn is apologizing for him and saying that he believes a two point guart system can work. Too bad Ricky doesn’t agree. We could be looking at the next Steve Francis situation, which is why I don’t think there is a chance in Hell that Rubio plays in Minnesoate next season.

Rumor has it that Rubio is upset that he didn’t get drafted higher. Boo hoo, Ricky. Go ask Chase Budinger, who a year or two ago was considered a possible lottery pick but went late in the second round this year, how he feels. Ego aside, Ricky is considering to stay in Spain and play for DKV Joventut. Have fun with that. Kahn already said that he is willing to wait a year or two if it means Rubio will come play. In other words, save the bluff because you aren’t going anywhere unless we say so.

The best situation would be for Minnesota to trade him to New York. The Knicks have a bigger crush on him than most guys do on Megan Fox. Transformers 2 sucks by the way. Save your money or send it to me and I will gladly do my best imitation of Shia LaNoNoNo or a racist Autobot. Seriously. But back to the Knicks, Mike D’Antoni envisions Rubio to be his point guard for the future. The only problem is the Knicks don’t have much to offer. Maybe they could package Jordan Hill and a draft pick for next season to move Rubio their way. I doubt it. If they do then it is imperative they re-sign David Lee to keep a frontcourt presence.

One way or the other Rubio is bound and determined to get out of Minnesota. He made it clear that he didn’t want to play there before the Draft and the Timberwolves took him anyway. Is he worth the headache? Maybe. We all became enamored with his YouTube clips and Minnesota loves him. The problem is that feeling isn’t mutual. Let the mind games begin.
