LeBron James to announce free agency decision on Thursday ESPN special
The moment the entire world has been anticipating for the past week is finally here and the NBA’s most prized free agent is taking the steps necessary to ensure it is an event that will be remembered in basketball lore for many years to come.
According to ESPN.com, NBA Insider Chris Broussard has learned through independent sources that LeBron James is planning to announce the team with which he will sign during a one-hour special on ESPN Thursday night.
ESPN would only confirm that active discussions for the special are ongoing. But sources tell Broussard that representatives for James contacted the network, proposing that James makes his announcement during a 9PM EST special.
Those sources said that James’ representatives requested they be allowed to sell sponsorship for the one-hour special, with the proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and that ESPN agreed to the proposal but had not been told what James has decided.
One can only imagine how the proposed sixty minutes will be filled because it requires only one to announce where James will be playing next season; but considering all the hoopla surrounding the myriad of meetings and the rumors that have been circulating since free agency began on July 1, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that James’ decision would turn into such a spectacle.
And there is absolutely no doubt that this proposed special will be a ratings bonanza for ESPN as millions of viewers will be expected to tune in and hang on James’ word until the announcement is made.
So who will it be? Cleveland? Chicago? Miami? New Jersey? New York?
Tune in to ESPN at 9PM Thursday night to find out. The world will be watching.
