Has the Spurs Dynasty Ended?
Was the failure to escape the first round due to injuries? Or have the Spurs lost their advantage against more talented West coast opponents?
Heard on www.ClubSpurs.com:
This was as bad as it gets the team needs an overhaul and needs a youth infusion like yesterday. We are not going to be able to go wild this FA but we do have 7 contacts with 1 year left and with people wanting to go crazy for 2010 we may be able to get good players via trade for those expiring contracts. Forget it we have no shot at that big super 2010 FA which is going to be pretty lame with most guys staying where they are at for more money. Money talks period end of story. - 1kangaroo
I think there’s interesting options that will be there this off season, and with many teams trying to “save” money for the BIG FA’s in 2010, I feel that the Spurs will be able to get a few contributors for next season. Also bringing in guys like Ian Mahinmi and Malik Hairston will help to. Hairston has shown some promise and if he can get some time in with Chip, I see some good things happening from him. Hopefully the guys will get healthy and some rest, and stay healthy next year. Injuries really killed the Spurs this season. - manufan10
Everyone needs to go except Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Gooden, Mason Jr., Bonner and Hill. Mahimni and Hairston need to develop and be important contributors next year. I love these players and what they have done but these need to go: Udoka, Thomas, Oberto, Vaughn, Finley. Bowen needs to stay and have an influence on our younger players and help them develop, pretty much a mentor, maybe the same could be for Finley but minutes need to be reduced to 5-10-15 a game for next season. The Spurs Front Office can’t look at guys like Rasheed Wallace or Allen Iverson although I think Iverson could land in San Antonio next year and start for us. We could even land Rasheed but not if Gooden stays. But that is it with the vets. Spurs need a wing player someone like Gerald Wallace, Josh Howard or Caron Butler. That can put up points and play defense. - SVballer
I highly doubt LeBron or DWade will come to San Antonio, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pick up a key piece or two in 2010 if not beforehand. The Spurs have built great teams by putting in pieces that fit, so I don’t expect that to change. Tim, Tony, and Manu are our weapons and the leaders of our team. The answer is…well, not The Answer. We don’t need to line the roster with aging players. That well ran dry last year and we have to adapt to the changes of the league. It’s a young man’s game. We have to put players that are physically and mentally capable of delivering in April and beyond. If it means having to part with some longtime favorites, then so be it. I would rather have young, inexperienced players who play their hearts out than experienced veterans who are two steps too slow and/or mentally disappear come playoff time. - Stofe
