Fastball Velocities By The Months

Here is a month by month comparison of the Rays pitchers fastballs plus there fastball percentage.

The yellow indicates an increase of June velocities from May. Small sample size but I noticed most of the pitchers who threw a fewer percentage of fastballs in June from May, actually either gained velocity or stayed the same. Not sure if that is just the small sample size or differences between ballparks. Dan Wheeler gain one mph from the start of the season and J.P. Howell gained two mph. Also Matt Garza’s fastball usage has gone down this month but that is likely just because he only had two starts. And finally Grant Balfour is gaining some velocity but is using more of his breaking pitches this season to counter his velocity drop.
