Colts: Although They Haven’t Been Impressive, They’re Still Unbeaten

Indianapolis Colts v Miami Dolphins
And there goes Ronnie Brown for a three-yard touchdown run! The Dolphins are up, 20-13. Brown has been looking swell against this Colts’ shaky defense right now. Oh, but here comes rookie running back Donald Brown, as he breaks away for a 15-yard touchdown, his first of the season and his career!

With 3:50 left in the game, Dolphins’ Dan Carpenter has now hit a 45-yard field goal which may seal the deal for Miami as they lead, 23-20. Here goes the Colts, who have been completely dominated by the Fins in the time of possession and it is right now not looking good, not at all.

Peyton Manning takes the snap, drops back, finds Pierrre Garcon at the screen. And look, here he goes! To the twenty, to the ten, to the five, touchdown Colts! With 3:18 left, I don’t think Miami can come back. A few plays later….Chad Pennington looking for a Hail Mary, he throws, and it is intercepted by Antoine Bethea! The Colts have ran away with another victory.

27-23, Colts!

The Colts are now stood at a record of 2-0. Oh. To many of you fans of the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars, I know what you must be saying in your head: “Oh!” Your teams have been beaten by Indy. Colts are 2-0, Jacksonville and Miami are, well, 0-2. You do realize what it actually should be, right?

Colts: 0-2
Jags and Fins: 1-1

It’s true. Let’s analyze the stats between both games Indy has faced. First, let’s begin with the 14-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Yes, that does look impressive. The Colts dominated on all scenarios and were truly just unstoppable during the game. But what surprised many football fans was the score, in which Indy only won by two measly little points. What has been bothering the Colts, in which I have witnessed since the 2006-07 season, is their run defense. They allowed 114 rushing yards while Indy only had mere 71.

That isn’t good, but a win is a win. But the turnovers also played a role in the game as the Colts fumbled the ball and an interception occured. The pick took place in the first drive of the game, as Peyton Manning threw a quick pass to Reggie Wayne in the end zone, which resulted in a turnover.

Bummer.

The Colts made little 5′7″ Maurice Jones-Drew feel like a big old Jerome Bettis. The Colts need to learn to dominate on the run defense, or else it is going to cost them. Indy played good overall during that game, but not great. As of right now, pass defense has been solid. Let’s see if they can bring more pain, this time, against the Wildcat-killer Dolphins.

Ok, whoa Jethro. What was going on here? The Colts only one in three categories: the passing yards, the less turnovers, and the game. This game was just luck, okay? Ronnie Brown ran all over the Colts. The Wildcat killed Indy. Looks like the celebrities that attended the game really didn’t help at all, huh?

The Dolphins edged out Indianapolis by 47 yards in Total Offense as the Colts beat Miami by 131 yards in Passing Offense. But what killed the Colts was the Rushing Yards and the Time of Possession. The Fins beat the Colts by 178 yards in Rushing Offense and beat the Colts by 30 minutes and 54 seconds in T.O.P. That is not good at all.

The Colts really have to improve on this. The turnover sealed the deal for Indy, as Antoine Bethea picked off a Hail Mary pass by Pennington. But what really saved the Colts was Pierre Garcon. Yes, Pierre who? Well, that’s what most of you think, but I’ve talked to this kid back in June. I interviewed Pierre and he said that he just couldn’t wait for his first ever touchdown. Well, how about having a game-winning 48-yard touchdown pass from the best quarterback in the NFL as your first, eh?

Congrats Pierre, and congrats to Indy on the win. The Colts escaped with this. Whenever Miami took the lead, the Colts just came back and tied the game. All Indy did was being trailed by Miami after that Dallas Clark touchdown pass to start off the game. The Colts just need to improve on defense. Gary Brackett and Bob Sanders really got to get healthy, or else more trouble will be surrounded around this offense.

So how are my Colts doing after two games? Let’s see:

Right now, the Colts have just been okay so far into two games this NFL season. The Colts have been good in Total Yards and have dominated in Passing Yards. The rushing yards are a big question right now. The Colts need to improve on the run. It seems like Donald Brown is a wasted draft pick. He’s not though. If the Colts can get their O-Line going, the run will look solid. The turnovers aren’t playing much of a factor, but they haven’t made a mistake since Week One. The T.O.P. is not looking so good with Indy, they need to take control of the ball.

Now to conclude this topic. Right now, the Colts are looking good. They would have been a lot better if they still had Marvin Harrison and Anthony Gonzalez. And with Ryan Lilja out for the season, the blocking hasn’t been all that solid. Now here are the Colts, entering Week Three as they will be facing the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday Night.

Now this is going to be a real tough matchup, indeed. The Colts are going to have to put pressure on Kurt Warner. With a fast defensive line, I think they’ll be getting to unmobile quarterback a lot, which brings in Matt Leinart!!! No, just kidding. But this is where the Colts can shut down the run as I think Tim Hightower is going to get stuffed.

What the Colts need to watch out for is Larry Fitzgerald. He’s going to be dangerous. The Colts have to stop him. The last time Indy faced the Cards was back in the 2005-06 season when Indy barely won, 17-13. They almost lost as Arizona had a touchdown to take a 19-17 lead, but it ruled off.

I think the Colts can actually have a chance at running the ball well this game, and the passing offense looks to be favorable. I think this is going to be a showdown, as Indy will win this game 44-38, or something along those lines because this is going to be one heck of a game. This will be just like the high-scoring game back in the 2005-06 season when Indy beat the Bengals 45-37.

Right now, the Colts have not been all that impressive, I know. But, look, they are still finding ways to win and they stand at unbeaten. I am totally fine with that. When it comes to the NFL, the stats don’t matter. Winning is the most important thing. Rushing yards, passing yards, yeah, they can hurt you. But the stat you need to win in is the score, and that’s what the Colts have shown.

Sure, it would be great to be the stat and winning team like they were back in the 2007-08 season. But like I said a long time ago, the Colts are so much better as a Wild-Card type team. Some losses will be occured. The Colts are looking at tougher teams ahead. If they can play just play better than what they are now, they’ll be a frightful team to watch, guaranteed.

Impressive, no?

But hey, they’re undefeated, and that’s what matters!
