Celtics/NBA Updates

Eddie getting greedy:

“We haven’t made a final decision,” agent Mark Bartelstein said.
“He’d love to stay in Boston. He loves everything about what he has
here. The fans have been great to him, and he’s been a big part of the
team.”But I think it’s safe to say that he’s outplayed his contract.”

“Everybody is a little unsure of [the economy],” said Bartelstein.
“But I know this much - there’s a lot of guys who were backup players
making more than Eddie who served as window dressing on their teams.”

Insight: Then again, he does have a reason to. House was a big part in this year’s playoff run and regular season success. If he wasn’t coming off the bench, we most likely would have fallen to the third seed behind the Magic. It also would have given us a shortage of point guards, which luckily didn’t happen since we were already limited at two positions.

Ainge prepared to spend if necessary:

Equipped only with the (approximately $5.5
million) mid-level exception, Ainge also wants to sign a free agent and
possibly two, with a backup small forward . . . or an active backup big
man . . . the preferences.

“We would spend the (full) mid-level on the right player,” Ainge said. “But we’re just not going to spend it to spend it.”

From the Globe:
“We’d spend it on certain players,” said . . . Ainge. “We are not going
to spend it for sure, but we would spend it on the right person.”

Insight: Good, because we have some work to do.

Shaq to Cleveland?:

Sports News - February 16, 2009

A potential Suns trade that would send center Shaquille O’Neal to
Cleveland to help LeBron James’ title quest is heating up again after
the idea was put on a back burner following February talks.

The parts of the possible deal remain the same. Phoenix would send
O’Neal to Cleveland for veteran power forward Ben Wallace, who is
considering retirement, and reserve guard Sasha Pavlovic, whose final
contract year is not fully guaranteed.

Insight: The Cavs would certainly be an imposing team coming into the season, but would it be enough to beat a revamped C’s team and a Magic team coming off a trip to the Finals?
