Calderon’s Surgery (and why we care)

Calderon has Finger Surgery

I like talking about the Raptor’s even when there isn’t particularly much to talk about.  So today this was in the news:  Jose Calderon had surgery to repair ligament damage in his left ring finger.  Now I know what you’re thinking - “Wow there is a story that deserves to fall through the cracks.”

NOT SO! I say.   This past season Calderon had personal bests in nearly every statistical category, which we can merely attribute to increased minutes.  The real point of interest is Calderon’s captivating assault on the single season free throw percentage.  That’s right - Calderon managed to be a consistently better free throw shooter then anyone else in league history - while having damaged ligaments on his left ring finger.  (Which I think we can all agree is the most important ligament when it comes to shooting free throws… Or maybe clearly it isn’t…)

Bottom line: Jose what are you thinking?  Why risk your great FT ability with unnecessary surgery?  Like the saying goes if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.  Although in the case I guess something actually was broke.

I’m looking forward to the Raptor’s season opener already…
